Abstract
The purpose of this study is to empirically test the effect of community social capital on theelderly``s subjective quality of life by mediating sense of depression. For an empirical study, structural equation model and mediating regression model were applied to the final 261questionnaire survey data collected in Cheongju City. The result shows that among 4 socialcapital variables, only community attachment and community organization participation havesignificant influence on sense of depression and quality of life. They appear to affect the qualityof life indirectly as well as directly. On the other hand, there is no significant influence ofneighboring and neighbor trust on mediating and dependent variables. As implication, this studysuggests activation of the elderly``s community organization, its mobilization for tacklingcommunity problems, and policy intervention for residential stabilization in the long run.
